If you are not getting a custom paint job, race replica or a new paint scheme other than what is currently on your bike then you may skip step #1

A word of advice for anyone taking the plastic off of their bike to ship. Take a few moments to look over all of the supporting brackets that hold your plastic on to the bike. Now is the time to straighten them out or determine if they need to be replaced. It is a good idea to line up the damaged plastic in relation to the remaining plastic to see if they are bent. There is nothing like scratching a freshly painted panel when you try to install it because you have to force it to fit...
  1. Take 1/2 or 3/4 inch Painters Masking Tape and make a couple vertical and horizontal lines spanning both the side panel and the tank. You do this while the plastic is still on the bike, and you cut the tape at the end of the plastic once it has been laid out. We do this so we can get the spacing perfect and make all the lines line up for custom/non-stock paint jobs. The image below shows an example. If you have a bike where the tail section meets other plastic use this same method. If you are not sure if you need to do this please ask.

  2. Remove Plastic from the motorcycle, keep notes if needed so you know how to put everything back together.

  3. Remove ALL grommets, screws, nuts, rubbers from everything you will be sending. Put these in a bag and keep them. This will guarantee that you have all the parts needed when you put the bike back together.

  4. REMOVE ALL GAS FROM THE GAS TANK. We have received a number of tanks 1/2 full of gas. By draining the fuel you will make the UPS man feel safer and you will save a LOT of money on shipping.

  5. Please make sure you remove the gas cap. You do this by using a 6mm allen wrench (for most tanks) and removing the top screws. On most tanks only half of the bolts actualy go into the tank the other 3 are usually just there for looks (every other one is real). You will then need to use the key to open the top lid like you were going to put gas in. The whole top should now come off.

  6. Clean all parts of grease, oil and dirt with soapy water and a soft brush or sponge before shipping.

  7. On the back of EVERY part, bottom of gas tank or inside hard luggage place a piece of duct tape with your Name, Email & Phone Number. We get many of the same bikes in the shop at the same time. This will help avoid confusion. Also type or write up a short note of instructions and again include your contact information. Alternatively you may print our email correspondence. Tape these to the inside of the box or to the front of a part. This again is just another step to help speed the overall process. It is important that you use Duct Tape. While other methods such as label notes look nicer, Duct Tape is the only tape that stays on throughout the entire process.

  8. Finding and Choosing the right boxes can be hard sometimes. You do not want to get anything too big and sometimes shipping is cheaper sending 2 boxes instead of 1 really big one. Car body shops tend to have very good boxes. When packaging the body panels and tank try and keep anything from directly touching the sides of the box. This way if they are dropped or pushed against something in transit, further damage will not occur. When we ship your body work back it will be wrapped in cloth and bubble wrap (the plastic can rub and damage the virgin clear). If you are shipping us new plastic for a custom paint job I would recommend this also.

  9. Almost all of our customers ship using UPS, Fed-Ex and the Us Postal Service. We have gotten many packages shipped from places such as Staples and Mail Boxes Etc. They do a great job at safely packaging your stuff.

  10. If we have not recieved payment within 60 days of notification that your parts are finished, parts will be sold on e-Bay. This is of course unless you make other arrangements with us due to financial or other related problems.

Please send contact information and even a copy of your quote if possible with your shipment. Plastic sent to us without contact information or a return address and no communications eventualy ends up in our donor pile. You laugh, but we get random boxes from staples with no information all the time.

FJ1100 Belly Pan
There are some parts that are as expensive to fix as they are to replace. But sometimes a replacement can not be found, or the part needs to be customized. This is a Belly Pan from a 1987 FJ1100, the stock exghaust had burned through on both sides. The owner could not find a replacement and a new one would have melted in the same way.
